How to Check the Security of a Sex AI Tool

A practical, step-by-step checklist for vetting the security of any sex AI tool before you trust it with your most sensitive data.

The short version: before you trust any sex AI tool with intimate conversations or personal details, spend about ten minutes checking eight things — the privacy policy, encryption in transit and at rest, breach history, account and authentication options, permissions, how billing appears on your statement, whether you can delete and export your data, and how transparent the company is about who runs it. You do not need to be a security expert to do this. You just need to know what to look for and where to look. A quick security check before you create an account is far easier than dealing with exposed data afterward. Treat it as a habit for any tool that handles sensitive information, and let a tool that fails several checks disqualify itself.

Step 1: Read the privacy policy first

The privacy policy is the single most revealing document a tool publishes, and it is the right place to start. You do not need to read every word — you need to find answers to a few specific questions. If any of these answers are missing, buried, or deliberately vague, that itself is a meaningful finding about how the company treats your data.

  • What data does the tool collect, and does it collect more than it needs to deliver the service? Data minimisation — gathering only what is necessary — is a core privacy principle, so over-collection is a warning sign.
  • How long is your data retained, and what happens to it when you delete your account?
  • Is your data shared with, or sold to, third parties such as advertisers or data brokers?
  • Is your data used to train the underlying AI models, and can you opt out of that?
  • Where is your data stored, under which country's laws, and does the policy mention GDPR or CCPA rights?

A trustworthy policy answers these plainly and in language you can understand. Watch for the difference between a company saying it 'may share data with partners' — which can mean almost anything — and one that names the categories of recipients and gives you a way to opt out.

Step 2: Verify encryption in transit and at rest

Encryption protects your data in two distinct places: while it travels between your device and the tool, and while it sits stored on the tool's servers. One of these you can verify yourself in seconds; the other you have to read about, but you should still check both.

Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)

Confirm the site uses HTTPS — look for the padlock in your browser's address bar and a web address that begins with 'https'. This is TLS encryption, and it scrambles data as it moves between you and the tool so it cannot easily be intercepted on the network. Any site handling sensitive content over plain HTTP, with no padlock, should be avoided outright. If you want to go a step further, click the padlock to view the certificate details, or run the free Qualys SSL Labs test (ssllabs.com/ssltest), which grades a site's TLS configuration from A+ down to F based on protocol support and cipher strength. An A or A+ signals a modern, well-maintained setup.

Encryption at rest

This is about whether your stored data is encrypted on the tool's servers, and whether passwords are hashed rather than kept in plain text. You cannot see this directly from the outside, but a reputable privacy or security page will state it. Be wary of vague or outdated claims — one widely reported analysis found a popular AI app shipping with a deprecated encryption algorithm (3DES) and hard-coded keys, which is worse than useless. It is also worth knowing that most AI companion apps do not offer end-to-end encryption, which means staff can technically read what you send. That is not automatically disqualifying, but it should shape how much you disclose.

Step 3: Check the breach history

A company's track record tells you how it behaves under pressure. Search the tool's name alongside terms like 'data breach', 'leak' or 'security incident', and check Have I Been Pwned (haveibeenpwned.com) — a free service created by security researcher Troy Hunt that indexes billions of breached records. Enter the email you would use to sign up and see whether it already appears in known breaches. If you have an existing account with the tool, that same search tells you whether that specific service has been implicated.

A past breach is not automatically disqualifying — almost every large service has faced an incident. What matters is the response. Prompt notification, a clear explanation of what was exposed, and concrete fixes are reassuring. Silence, delay, or an attempt to downplay a serious leak is a genuine red flag, because it tells you how the company would treat your data next time.

Step 4: Examine account and authentication options

Strong account security is partly the tool's job and partly yours. Check what protections the platform offers, then use them fully. The single most valuable feature to look for is multi-factor authentication.

  • Does it allow a strong, unique password rather than imposing short or weak limits, and does it hash passwords rather than email them back to you?
  • Does it offer two-factor or multi-factor authentication (2FA/MFA)? This adds a second layer so that even a stolen password is not enough to get in.
  • Does it support app-based or biometric login (an authenticator app, face or fingerprint unlock) rather than SMS codes alone, which are weaker?
  • Does it let you review active sessions and log out other devices?
  • Do session tokens expire and refresh, rather than keeping you logged in indefinitely on any device that has ever touched your account?

Whatever the tool offers, pair it with a unique password stored in a password manager and turn on 2FA the moment your account exists — before you have any sensitive history worth protecting.

Step 5: Review the permissions it asks for

If the tool has a mobile app, look at the permissions it requests, and question anything that has no obvious purpose. A text-based companion has no reason to demand your contacts, precise location, microphone, or full photo library. On iOS and Android you can inspect and revoke individual permissions in system settings, so grant only what the feature you are using genuinely needs. The same logic applies to sign-up: if a tool asks for your real name, phone number, or ID when the service could work with an email and a username, that over-collection is worth pausing on.

Step 6: Assess billing discretion

For a tool you will pay for, how the charge appears matters. A billing descriptor is the short line of text your card issuer prints on your statement, and merchants set it through their payment processor. A company that publishes a real legal entity, a physical address, named policies, and clear contact and support channels is easier to hold accountable than an anonymous site with a slick front end and no paper trail. Look for a dedicated security or trust page, a changelog of policy updates, and a responsive support address. Transparency is not proof of good security on its own, but its absence removes any way for you to seek recourse if something goes wrong.

Red flags that should stop you

No HTTPS or a missing padlock on any page that takes personal data; a privacy policy that is missing, unreadable, or silent on data sharing and retention; a mobile app demanding contacts, location or your photo library for no reason; passwords emailed back to you in plain text; an unresolved or hushed-up breach; no visible way to delete your account; and an anonymous operator with no legal entity or contact channel. Any one of these on its own is reason to look elsewhere.

Security checking becomes second nature after you have done it a couple of times, and most of these steps take seconds once you know where to look. The goal is not paranoia — it is confidence.
